Lake Sidney Lanier, with 30% of its shoreline in Forsyth County, is also well known for its recreational opportunities.  The Army Corps of Engineers operates 46 park areas around the lake providing picnicking, campgrounds, boat launching ramps, swimming areas, group picnic shelters and hiking trails. With over 690 miles of shoreline, 100+ small islands, and covering more than 37,000 acres, Lake Lanier is the perfect place to pursue your recreational adventure. Whether it is fishing, camping, boating, picnicking, swimming or a variety of other recreation activities, Lake Lanier is just another adventure that awaits you as you visit Forsyth County.
The Cumming Chamber has established a partnership with Lake Lanier in an effort to work together to bring marquee sporting events including fishing, triathlons, boating, swimming and other water sports to Lake Lanier. Through this partnership, we offer sports event holders a one-stop shop when planning their events. It is no wonder Lake Lanier has become one of the nation’s favorite lakes!

The Etowah River Water Trail stretches 163 miles across North Georgia, providing a path into one of the state's most historically significant and one of the nation's most biologically diverse rivers. The river is lined with seven developed public boat landings, numerous undeveloped public access points and several boat ramps on Lake Allatoona. Non-profit organizations, private landowners and local governments are working to develop additional boat landings to improve public access. The Big Creek Greenway is a 6.8-mile long, 12-foot wide concrete and boardwalk path that meanders through the woods along Big Creek, offering a place to walk, jog, inline skate and bike. The path is an effort to conserve the environment, provide recreational opportunities to residents and visitors, provide environmental education and alternative transportation. The Greenway is an investment in the future of Forsyth County; a county will open green spaces for people as well as natural areas for plants and animals.
